Introduction
This assignment will give you insight into dental hygiene instrument design and manufacturing differences as well as their advertising claims. You will be exposed to many manufacturing representatives and dental conferences and meetings.
Task
The dental hygiene student will learn to identify design characteristics for dental hygiene scaling instruments.
The dental hygiene student will apply the knowledge of instrument design to where the instrument is designed to be used during dental hygiene therapy.

Process
Each student is to find two dental instrument website. There are hundreds of websites.
Post the URL for one of the instruments listed below from each website.
You cannot repeat the instrument someone has already reported on.
Report on the websites with a brief overview.
Discuss the differences in the same instrument from two different websites.
Be specific about the design of the instrument. Handle, knurling, shank, working end using appropriate vocabulary for instrument classification.
Compare and contrast the same instrument from different website, including price, metal working end made of and claims of being forever sharp.
Discuss how the design of the instrument dictates it's use and placement in the mouth.
Post one video or scholarly article about the use of the instrument you are researching.

Instrument design is one of the most difficult item to teach because there is no industry standards and patents. One company may call the exact same design a different name.
