Inquiry-Oriented Activity: Exploring Technology for Teaching and Learning

Introduction

Start by showing a short, engaging video demonstrating different educational technologies in action—examples include smartboards, tablets, virtual reality, or online simulations.

Ask students:

“How do these technologies help students learn? Could learning be just as effective without them?”

This sparks curiosity and frames the lesson as an investigation into the impact of technology on education.

Task

Activity Description:

Students will investigate one educational technology tool (software or hardware) and evaluate its effectiveness in helping students learn.

Desired End Product:

  • A short presentation, infographic, or poster showing:

              The chosen technology

Its purpose in teaching and learning

  • How it supports students’ understanding and engagement
  • A brief reflection paragraph explaining why the tool is useful and any potential limitations
Process
  1. Choose a Technology:
  • Examples: Kahoot, Quizlet, PhET Simulations, Google Classroom, VR apps, Smartboards.
  • Students may work individually or in small groups.

    2.   Research the Tool:

  • Find out what it does, how it’s used in classrooms, and what subjects it supports.
  • Explore reviews, videos, or tutorials showing it in action.

    3.   Analyze Educational Value:

  • Answer questions like:
  • How does this technology make learning easier or more engaging
  • Which types of learners benefit the most?
  • Are there limitations or challenges?

     4.  Create Your Output:

  • Design a poster, infographic, or slide presentation highlighting your findings.
  • Include images/screenshots of the technology in use.

      5.  Reflect:

  • Write a short paragraph about:
  • What you learned about educational technology
  • How it could improve teaching and learning.

      6.  Share and Discuss

  • Present your findings to the class and compare insights with peers.
Evaluation

Your work will be graded based on four things:

  1. Description of Technology: Did you clearly explain what the tool does and how it works?
  2. How It Helps Learning: Did you explain how the tool helps students learn and give examples?
  3. Presentation: Is your poster, infographic, or slides neat, organized, and easy to understand? Did you include pictures or screenshots?
  4. Reflection: Did you write about why the tool is useful for learning and any challenges or limitations it might have?

Each part will be graded, and doing all of them well will earn you the highest score.

Conclusion

Think about what you learned from this activity:

  • How does technology support learning?
  • What challenges did you notice?
  • How could teachers use this tool to improve lessons?
