Informative Text Station

Introduction

We have already watched weather reports. 

Now we will all have the time to become our school's finest Meterologist!

Task

You will be creating a weather report for either a newspaper or an almanac. Your job is to report the weather for the day accurately and effectively. Your weather report should include the temperature, precipitation and cloud coverage. In addition to that, you should include a prediction of the weather the next day. 

You will get to travel to the school's garden and interact with the schools weather station. When in the garden you will be creating a data sheet, that will help you record your observations and help form your predictions.

After you watch the video in your small groups, brainstorm a list of types of informational text that you can think of.

Create a list on the posterboard paper I provided. You can use my example for support. 

 

Then flip through the PowerPoint and explore the informational text you will be participating in. The powerpoint includes examples of weather reports from the radio, the morning news, almanac entries and even from the newspaper. Those are the types/ formats you will be modeling/ recreating for our assignment.

Content The weather report includes all the correct content. The temperature, description of the cloud coverage, the type of percipitation and includes a predicition of the weather for the next day.  The weather report is missing one of the aspects of the performance task.  The weather report is missing two or more aspects of the performance task. 
Structure The weather report follows the features of the their choosen wether report type.   The weather report follows some but not all of the features that accompany their choosen weather report type.  The weather report does not follow all of the features of the choosen weather report type. 
Presentation

The weather report attends to capitalization and grammar rules that are grade level appropriate. 

The weather report attends to capitalization and grammar rules that are grade level appropriate sometimes, with some mistakes.  The weather report does not attend to grade level appropriate grammar and capitalization rules more than half of the report.
