What is an inference?
Using what you know to make a guess about what you don't know or reading between the lines
Standard: Draw conclusions, infer, and analyze by citing textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
Task
SWBAT: make inferences using textual information and background knowledge
Students will read text messages and make inferences about what is happening between the two people and why using textual information and background knowledge
Process
In groups student will read the messages and using their sentence stems such as "I infer ___ happened because the text stated ____" to support their inferences.
Evaluation
Students will turn in their worksheets and teacher will check for reading comprehension
