Independent Reading Time

Introduction

During this time students will read their independent reading book at their seats. 

Standard: Read independently for multiple purposes over sustained periods of time by:

a. reading text that is developmentally appropriate

b. producing evidence of reading

Task

Students will read independent reading book for their book report during independent reading time. 

Process

While students are reading, the teacher will ask each student individually to read a page or two out loud for the teacher to check their fluency and comprehension of independent reading book.

Evaluation

Teacher  will take notes on how each student is reading based on fluency and comprehension to see if independent reading book is too easy, too hard or just at the students level that will help them become a better reader. 

Conclusion

Teacher will take the data from the formative assessment and help students during guided reading groups to work on the specific tasks each individual students needs to improve on during their reading.
