This Web Quest was created to help students further understand Imagery. Students were unable to differentiate between the different literary devices upon their arrival to this form one (1) class. Creating a task for them to complete allowed them to take the information that they were taught and apply it, allowing them to receive a hands-on approach to imagery, rather that just memorizing the definition and its examples.
Introduction
Welcome Students!! This Web Quest was created to help introduce you to another literary device that can be incorporated in your writing. This literary device is called 'Imagery'.
At the end of this task students will be able to:
- Define Imagery
- Identify examples of Imagery
- Incorporate Imagery in your essays/short stories
Task
Students will be taught the definition of imagery, as well as shown some of their examples.
Students will be required to do some independent research about imagery to enhance the information that they already know.
Students will be required to write a poem or short story incorporating the use of imagery
Process
Task One (1):
To learn imagery students will be asked to identify the imagery used in the story read by the teacher (the imagery identified must be recorded).
Task Two (2):
Students will use the imagery they recorded from the story that was read to write their own poem or short story.
Evaluation
Students will be marked on the following:
The variety of imagery used in writing piece.
Imagery correctly incorporated in writing piece
Length of writing piece (Poems: 2-3 stanzas; Stories: 3 paragraphs)
Creativity and Structure
Conclusion
Well Done students, you have completed the quest. You have written a poem/short story, and are aware of imagery and how it is used. I hope that you found this to be a fun learning experience.
