Introduction
Your mission, should you choose to accept, is to search for the illusive main idea. To do this, you will have to scope out the text, unearth your clues (supporting details), and solve what the main idea of the text is. This mission will have multiple parts. First, you must go through your training. Next, we will search in groups. Finally, you must create your own idea and clues for your fellow classmates to solve.
This quest is for 5th grade students and should take no more than 40 minutes to complete.

Task
Why this quest? It's important for all students to be able to identify and write the main idea and supporting details of a text. It helps with reading comprehension and also with writing skills. In order to be the best reader and writer you can be, you need to know how to identify the main idea and supporting details.
At the beginning of the quest we will review what main idea and supporting details are. Then we will move forward to working as a group to identify main idea and supporting details in a text. Finally, you will be able to write your own text with a main idea and supporting details by the end of the quest.
Process
Step 1: Learners will read a refresher on what a main idea and supporting details are.
Step 2: Learners will answer questions on Quizlet about main ideas and supporting details in order to earn their "clues."
Step 3: Learners will match the "clues" to the main idea they belong with.
