Introduction
Imagine that you are invited by a team of water specialists to explore the water cycle.
The water specialists have come up with a way to turn you into a single drop of water and let you learn about the water cycle first hand.
-
What would your journey through the water cycle be like?
-
What would you experience?
Task
Using a variety of resources including the internet, you along with several of your classmates will form your own team of water experts. You will each be assigned a role within your water expert team and will be responsible for researching a specific part of the water cycle.
You and your team will work together to create a travel journal of your journey through the water cycle. Your team's journal will include your experiences in all four stages of the water cycle. When your travel journey is complete your team will give a presentation of your journey to your classmates.
Process
Step1 ASSIGN JOBS AND KNOW YOUR JOB
To begin your journey through the water cycle you will pick your team and then divide into specific roles within your team. Your team will consist of three - four members:
1) Evaporation and Transpiration Expert
2) Condensation Connoisseur
3) Precipitation Professional
4) Collection Consultant
If you are a Evaporation and transpiration Expert your job is to:
- Use the internet and other sourcessuch as your textbook, and others books to find out information about evaporation and transpiration and their role in the water cycle. This includes finding out information about what happens during evaporation/transpiration as well as specific examples.
- Write an account of your journey as a water drop who experiences evaporation. What would your drop experinece during evaporation?
- Write an account of your journey as a water drop who experiences transpiration. What would your drop experinece during transpiration?
- Work together with other members of your team to create an account of the entire journey of a water drop through the water cycle.
- Work together with other members of your team to create a presentation (powerpoint, posters, play etc.) to show journey through the water cycle to your classmates.
If you are a Condensation Connoisseur your job is to:
- Use the internet and other sources such as your textbook, and others books to find out informationabout condensation and its role in the water cycle. This includes finding out information about what happens during the condensation stage as well as specific examples of condensation.
- Write an account of your journey as a water drop who experiences condensation.
- Work together with other members ofyour team to create an account of the entire journey of a water dropthrough the water cycle.
- Work together with other members ofthe team to create a presentation (powerpoint, posters, play etc.) toconvey your descriptions of your journey through the water cycle toyour classmates.
If you are a Precipitation Professional your job is to:
- Use the internet and other sourcessuch as your textbook, and others books to find out informationabout precipitation and its role in the water cycle. This includesfinding out information about what happens during theprecipitation stage as well as specific examples of precipitation.
- Write an account of your journey as a water drop who experiences precipitation.
- Work together with other members ofyour team to create an account of the entire journey of a water dropthrough the water cycle.
- Work together with other members ofthe team to create a presentation (powerpoint, posters, play etc.) toconvey your descriptions of your journey through the water cycle toyour classmates.
If you are a Collection Consultant your job is to:
- Use the internet and other sourcessuch as your textbook, and others books to find out informationabout collection (where the water goes after precipitation) and its role in the water cycle. This includesfinding out information about what happens during the collectionstage as well as specific examples of collection.
- Write an account of your journey as a water drop who experiences collection.
- Work together with other members ofyour team to create an account of the entire journey of a water dropthrough the water cycle.
- Work together with other members ofthe team to create a presentation (powerpoint, posters, play etc.) toconvey your descriptions of your journey through the water cycle toyour classmates.
Step2: BEGIN INDEPENDENT WORK
Each individual member of the team will be responsible for gathering information on their assigned stage of the water cycle.
Be sure to reseach what happens during your assigned stage of the water cycle as well as specific examples.
Put your information together in a fun and interesting way and be ready to share what you learned with your team.
Step3:
The team will work together to construct a journey through the entire water cycle from evaporation to collection.
There should be four parts or stages included in your travel journal as you work together to describe a complete journey.
These stages should include evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection.
Remember you want to collaborate your team's research into a creative travel journal that would describe what a water drop experiences as it travels through thewater cycle.

Step4:
After your team works together to complete your travel journal you must decide how you would like to share this information with your classmates.
Your team must incorporate the information in your finished travel journal into your presentation.
Your presentation can take any shape you would like.
Some ideas include a powerpoint presentation, posters, or a play. Finally, you will present your simulated journey to your classmates. Don't forget just as water can take many forms (solid, liquid, or gas) so can your team's presentation.
Be creative and have fun!
