Introduction
Good morning grade 12s welcome to life science webquest.
LESSON OUTCOMES
After today's lesson you are expected to know:
- What are human reproductive systems.
- Able to differentiate the two reproductive systems.
- Able to label their structures.
- Know their functions.
The reproductive system is the human organ system responsible for the production and fertilization of gametes (sperm or eggs) and carrying of a fetus. Both both sexes gonads produce gametes. A gamete is a haploid cell that combines with another haploid gamete during fertilization, forming a single diploid cell called a zygote. Besides producing gametes, the gonads also produce sex hormones. Sex hormones are endocrine hormones that control the development of sex organs before birth, sexual maturation at puberty, and reproduction once sexual maturation has occurred. Other reproductive system organs have various functions, such as maturing gametes, delivering gametes to the site of fertilization, and providing an environment for the development and growth of offspring.
Male Reproductive System
The male reproductive system is mostly located outside of the body. These external organs include the penis, scrotum and testicles. Internal organs include the vas deferens, prostate and urethra. The male reproductive system is responsible for sexual function, as well as urination.
What’s the male reproductive system?
The male reproductive system is a grouping of organs that make up a man’s reproductive and urinary systems. These organs do the following jobs within your body:
- They produce, maintain and transport sperm (the male reproductive cells) and semen (the protective fluid around the sperm).
- They discharge sperm into the female reproductive tract.
- They produce and secrete male sex hormones.
The male reproductive system is made up of internal (inside your body) and external (outside your body) parts. Together, these organs help you urinate (rid your body of liquid waste materials), have sexual intercourse and make children.
Female reproductive system
The female reproductive system is made up of internal organs and external structures. Its function is to enable reproduction of the species. Sexual maturation is the process that this system undergoes in order to carry out its role in the process of pregnancy and birth.

he uterus, or womb, is a hollow organ located centrally in the pelvis. It houses the developing fetus during pregnancy. The lower portion of the uterus is called the cervix and opens into the vagina, or birth canal. An opening in the cervix allows for the passage of sperm into the uterus and the exit of menstrual blood. This same opening dilates during labor to allow passage of the baby through the birth canal. Arising from the upper portion of the uterus on each side are the Fallopian tubes. These are channels that allow eggs from the ovaries to enter the uterus. The process of fertilization of an egg by a sperm cell typically happens in the Fallopian tubes, and the fertilized egg moves into the uterus where it is implanted. Beside the uterus on each side and near the opening of the Fallopian tubes are the small, oval ovaries. They produce hormones and contain eggs. At birth, a female has 1 to 2 million eggs already present in the ovaries, but only about 300 of them will mature during a woman's lifetime.
Task
In today's lesson you have an activity that you are expected to do. Each learner is expected to answer the following questions.
- What is male reproductive system
- What is female reproductive system
- What are the functions of male reproductive system?
- What are the functions of female reproductive system?
- List the similarities between these two human reproductive systems?
Process
- A learner must go to the introduction and read the attached notes about human reproductive organs.
- Each learner must go to his/her textbook to the human reproductive system section.
- All learners must watch the attached video on credits to get better understanding on the topic
- They must all visit the link below for more:

Evaluation
Question 1......10 marks
Question 2.......10 marks
Question 3........15 marks
Question 4.........10 marks
Question 5...........6 marks
(TOTAL 51 MARKS)
Conclusion
To conclude every learner is expected to read the notes and understand more about the lesson of the day. They have to answer all the questions given to if they understood the lesson about human reproductive organs.

Todays topic was about human reproductive systems. We have two human reproductive systems which are male and the female reproductive systems.
