Human Origins and Migration

Introduction

Hello over the next few days you will explore Early Human Origins and Migration.

During your visit you will be asked several questions from the various websites. You must answer these questions in complete sentences on a separate sheet of paper.  This will be turned in once completed.

Task

Quest 1 - Visit the link and answer the questions about the family tree of our ancestors.

Directions:  Write down the time when each group lived and what made them special (read the pop-up text when you roll over each group).

Directions: Answer these questions by clicking on the questions (in the boxes) then search for evidence in the landscape. Write down the things that appear on the list.

  2. What animals and plants did early humans see?
  3. Where did early humans live and die?
  4. In what kinds of environments did early humans live?
  5. How did later humans in this region differ from the earlier ones

Directions: Click the yellow arrow (upper right) to watch an animation of early human migration. Watch and listen to each step. Then answer the following questions.

 

  1. In your own words (summarizing the info from the map animation) how did early humans spread out across the globe?
  2. How did Homo Sapiens get from Siberia to Alaska?
  3. What caused humans to continue to migrate south once they arrived on the American continent?
  4. Which continent was settled by Homo Sapiens last? 

 

 

Process

Answer each of the questions in complete sentences.  Make sure you keep up with your paper as it will take several days to complete the quest.  Answers must be done in complete sentences, and turned in.

Evaluation

Each question is worth 1 point for completion in complete sentences. Points will be deducted for incomplete sentences or work.

Conclusion

The webquest is a great tool to utilize to study for the test. It is important you keep up with as the quest will serve as notes.
