How to use Technology for Multilingual Students

Introduction

Their are a lot of great ideas teachers can use when teaching multilingual students. In the U.S., about 25% of kids speak a language other then English. It is important for teachers to get the training they need to teach multilingual students to their fullest ability. Every child deserves to learn at their own pace. There are a lot of technology tools that teachers can use.

Task

The tasks I would use to help teachers teach multilingual students are the different types of websites. These resources that I am giving the teacher are going to help all students that are developing literacy and fluency with using English.

Process

The process I would give is first the teachers need to know there are going to be different types of learners in the classroom. I would have different varieties for the students to pick from. The different types of resources I would have are visual activities. Multilingual learners need visuals to see what the words means and look like. One website I would use for that is LanguageGuide.org and this website is common words in 24 languages. The next thing I would have them do is language detectives. This encourages students to take pictures of objects that they do not know the words too. The whole class will then discuss the picture all together for a hands on activity. The last thing I would do is assisted writing with PicLits. This is all about using a vocabulary list while using pictures. There is also fill in the blanks so they can see what the picture or word is by itself.

Evaluation

I will have each child see what activity works the best for them and once they find that I will see how they are doing. I will sit down with them and talk to them about what they are learning and look to see if the activities are working for them or not. I would also look at the grade they get to see if it is too easy or hard for them.

Conclusion

While doing these websites and activities the hope is that the students get better in English. Multilingual students hopefully will be better at speaking and reading English than they were when they started. If they aren't then I will do more activities, and one on one time with them.
