Introduction
Dear student,
In order to complete this WQ successfully you will have to team up in groups of four (already made in class) and follow the given instructions.
You are part of a rescue team that patrols the neighborhood to provide first aid in case it is needed. Your service is of high importance to the community, as you are going to encounter 4 cases scenario where you will attend a victim as a team, though each of you will be acting as the main aider (leader) in one of the situations.
The four scenarios are:
1st scenario: It is 4 pm on a summer day and you find a man passed out on a basketball court.
2nd scenario: By the bottom of a staircase, you see an old lady bleeding from her head, her right leg in a unnatural position.
3rd scenario: A middle age man is getting out of a car in flames, he passes out as he tries to walk away, holding his left arm and wincing.
4th scenario: A woman in a restaurant terrace suddenly stands up and and wraps her throat with her hands, trying to cough with no success. (After a while she will collapse on the floor unresponsive).
Task
1- Meet with the members of your team and:
- Assign the leadership for each case scenario and different roles for the rest of the members (leader /victim/ secondary rescuer/ baystander/ medical service).
- Record a video for each case scenario, where each member is playing their role. Be creative with the role play and follow the procedure carefully.
2- Each video should include:
- A short spoken introduction in each clip to explain the scenario
- The role play case scenario (with the 4 members in action)
- A reflection at the end containing: the problems you might have encountered, an explanation of 3 interpersonal skills that you need in order to apply first aid in your scenario, how could have the victim prevented the accident to happen.
3- Upload the video file (where you are leading the rescue) to moodle, under the name Assessment 3_Student name_ First Aid. (Maximum upload file size 50 MB).
Process
1- Choose the scenario where you will be leading the rescue/ first aid and think of the knowledge you need to acquire in order to apply frist aid to your victim, and the interpersonal skills that you should show in order to do so.
2- Review the emergency procedure that is common to all accidents and that you will have to apply, and retrieve information about the specialised case you have to treat in your particular scenario.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURE: DR. ABC
BURNS
SEVERE EXTERNAL BLEEDING
FRACTURES
SUN STROKE/ FAINTING
CHOKING

Reflect on…
· Why is it important to know first aid?
· Do you think everyone should have basic knowledge in CPR and other severe conditions (bleeding, burns, stroke, choking …)?
· What is the role of communication in an accident with the different individuals involved (other aiders, victim, medical service, families …?)
· How can I improve the key interpersonal skills that a rescuer should have?
