How Much Money?

Introduction

This WebQuest is going to help you practice counting amounts of money!

Knowing how to count money is important and will help you even when you’re older. You will be reminded of the value of each coin and the dollar bill. You will then be given a collection of coins and bills to count and total up. To wrap up this WebQuest we will play Money Bingo!

The Indiana State Standard practiced in this WebQuest is:

2.M.7 Find the value of a collection of pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars.

Task

First, you will be reminded of the value of each coin and dollar bill and practice with those.

Secondly, you will be shown a collection of money and you must find the total amount shown.

Finally, the class will play Money Bingo. The teacher will give you a picture of a collection of money and you must find the amount that matches the picture and place a marker.

Evaluation

After every student has finished the practice activities the teacher should host a game of Money Bingo using this link:

The teacher should put collections of coins and bills on the screen and let the children count the money and find a space on their board. Wait an appropriate amount of time and then work it with the class so everyone can find their spot on their board.

Conclusion

In conclusion,

You can follow up and continue to pull out the Money Bingo and help the kids keep their counting money skills fresh. You can even add bigger or larger amounts of money and challenge them! As a follow up activity, have the kids separate into groups and count actual coins into specific amounts. This way you’re encouraging group work and giving a physical property to their counting!
