How many taxes are taken out of a person’s paycheck, and where do they go?

In this webquest, you will be researching and presenting information on how much money is taken out of a person's paycheck and where it goes.

You will be reading several articles and using this information to create your presentation that you will present to other members of your class.

Task

Today you will read several articles and complete several RACE tickets.

You will submit those tickets to your teacher.

Then, you will use this information to help you create a presentation!

Process

Step One: Read the following article, "Should You Get a Job?" and answer the following question:

What are the biggest challenges for teenagers in getting a job?

Step Two: Read How to Explain a Paycheck's Witholdings and answer the following question: 

Identify three things that are taken out of a person's paycheck.

Step Three: Go to the computer and watch the video, "Social Security: Just the Facts" and answer the following question:

What does Social Security pay for?

Step Four: Check out the website, New York Paycheck Calculator and calculate how much you money you will take home if your gross pay is $30,000. You can do this on your phone or on the computer.
