Hi Students!!!

Are you ready for another fun-filled adventure, as we explore another aspect of the Social Studies Curriculum.

Today, we will explore what physical features are and the various human activities that are affected by Earth's physical features.

Yes! You read that correctly.  We (humans) do affect 'Mother Earth,' however, today we will be examining the flip side to this coin.

So, sit back, relax and get ready to click away, as we explore and use technology in a variety of ways to represent information.

Task

At the end of this lesson; students will be able to:

  1. Define the term physical features with at least 80% accuracy.
  2. List at least 5 physical features of planet Earth.
  3. Identify at least 3 human activities affected by Earth's physical features.
  4. Explain at least 1 activity identified in 3 above.

Are you ready kids!!!  

Follow the steps below for the fun-filled journey.

1. Listen to podcast, after which you will formulate your own definition for the term physical features.

2. Watch video then discuss the various types of land forms found world-wide.

3. Read info in groups then identify one human activity per group that is affected by Earth's physical features.

4. Engage in a discussion, explaining at least one activity identified.

5. As we wrap up this session, it is always important to test how sharp your memories are by engaging in the     following game

This web-quest is a new and exciting way to impart knowledge to our students.  It takes away from the 'chalk and talk' method and towards using ICT in the classrooms everyday, especially since we are living in a technological age.  This is also a requirement for the New Standards Curriculum.

Students will be fully engaged in the lesson, they can work at their own pace and they will also have the opportunity to revisit the web-quest as a means of reviewing the lesson taught.

Teachers will have more time to interact with students, offering assistance where needed.  this also save time, as it can be produced in a shorter time than what is required to prepare written lesson plans.

Resources needed: Laptops/ Desk tops/ Tablets, Internet Access, Listed Web Sites.
