Holocaust Webquest

Introduction

You have recently been learning about the devastating events of the Holocaust. Today you will be exploring the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's website in order to learn more about these events and those involved.

Task

The students will use the website: https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005142 in order to find the answers to the questions in this webquest.

Process

1. Copy and paste these questions into a word document. Answer them by exploring the Holocaust Museum's website.

How many Jews were murdered during the Holocaust?

2. Who were the gestapo?

3. What does the term concentration camp mean and when were they established?

4. Where did the largest Jewish population reside in Europe during 1933?

5. What does the word, Holocaust, mean in Greek?

6. Who were some of the other targeted groups other than Jews during the Holocaust?

7. What day did the German armed forces surrender unconditionally to the Allies?

8. What were the displaced persons camps?

9. How many Jews were killed in the Operation Reinhard killing centers between March 1942 and November 1943?

10. What are ghettos? What are the 3 different types?

11. Watch the film, The Path to Nazi Genocide, starting at 8:00 and watching until 9:37.

12. How did Adolf Hitler come into Power?

13. Go to Holocaust Encyclopedia on the website and click on the article Children during the Holocaust. Scroll down to Personal Histories.

Pick one person and describe what you found out about them.

Evaluation

The teacher will check the student's answers to ensure that they completed the answers correctly. If the students correctly completes and meets the requirements of the assignment, then they will receive a score of 100%.

Conclusion

After completing this webquest, your knowledge over the Holocaust should have been reinforced. This website provides indepth information over this topic and provide great insight into this event. I encourage you all to explore the website in your free time and share anything you find interesting that we haven't discussed already in class.
