You are probably like me and have a favorite holiday that you celebrate.  And you probably also know that there are many holidays celebrated that you may not be familiar with. Your goal is to learn about a holiday that you DO NOT celebrate.  This WebQuest will allow you to use resources from the internet to further your knowledge of a holiday that is new to you.

You will pick one holiday from the list below that you DO NOT celebrate.  You will research that holiday using the links provided, answer 6 questions about the holiday and share that information with the class using google slides.  Please be creative and include pictures, video clips and/or music associated with the holiday you chose.

The holidays you may choose from from are:  Diwali,  Hanukkah, Eid al-Fitr, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Chinese New Year, Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead

By completing this assignment, you have learned about a new holiday that you may never have heard of or that may be celebrated by a classmate, neighbor or friend.  You will also gain experience using google slides and public speaking.

A WebQuest for 4th - 5th Graders that incorporates social studies and technology.

This lesson was developed to provide students with a chance to conduct research on a cultural/historical topic.  Students will have to know how to use/create google slides and will need access to the internet.  Students will observe and categorize as well as use creative production. Meets NYS social studies standards of civic participation, gathering, interpreting and using evidence.

Hopefully, "A Holiday Celebration That is New to Me", will give students a good sense and understanding of a new holiday tradition.  Students will also identify a positive part of the holiday that they identify with.
