Process
1. Look at the rebus. Can you solve it?https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xjMQlQOUQbqeokRNhq_2cseFtwDtWvn5Ei6HXaXay6g/edit?usp=sharing
2. Match hobbies and their definitions
Hobbies and their definitions
3. Match the phonetic transcriptions with the phrases:
4. In the list of 14 hobby activities you were presented earlier find and circle the words that have /e/ and /æ/ sounds.
5. learn about the sounds here!
6. listen to the minimal pairs and choose which one was said first:
and end
axe X
beg bag
had head
hem ham
jam gem
pen pan
pat pet
sad said
set sat
Now, repeat after the speaker
7. Back from phonetics to hobbies! You might like some and dislike some! Group the phrases into two groups: expressing likes and expressing dislikes.
I'm crazy about cookING.
I'm really into COOKING
I find cookING enjoyable.
Cooking is great
I enjoy cookING
Cooking is cool
Cooking is brilliant
What I dislike about cookING is cookING
What I dislike about cooking is getting tired
Cooking is terrible/awful/boring
I hate/can't stand/don’t fancy cookING
I like cookING
I find cookING enjoyable.
Pay attention to the -ING ending. Don't forget, it means, the word is a gerund.
8. Now go back to the list of hobbies and express your likes/dislikes towards 10 of them.
9. Pick 5 of your sentences and add some additional information
Examples:
I like cooking + because my family likes my food
I like cooking + because I like my kitchen
10. Now! For your hw you will make a short video (1-3 minutes) where you show an activity and express either you like or dislike for it + explain the reason.
Exactly the same way you did in exercise 9 :)
Please, give attention to the /e/ and /æ/ sounds
