Introduction
Beginning in 1853 before the end of the Civil war, over 120,000 orphaned children were shipped across the country to work on farms for families in exchange for shelter and food. This movement of children would not end until the early 1900's. Those children who were not moved would have lives that consisted of working every day either has newspaper boys, boot blacks or stealing to find money or food.
This Web Quest has been designed for an 11th grade classroom environment over the course of the next few days. It is intended that through the use of web-based material and the use of media that students will be able to use this Web Quest to deepen their understanding of children's life from 1853 through the 1900's. The completion of this Quest will also allow students to broaden their knowledge of how life was after the Civil war, how adults viewed children and how much has changed since, allowing students to bridge the history with the current life of children. The task was designed to show students that history can relate to every day life. This is done by investigating what has happened to children through out the years given and by understanding the conditions that once existed.
