Historical Tour of St. Augustine

Introduction

Welcome to the St. Augustine branch of the Florida Authentic Tours Company, or FLAT-C as some like to call it.  We are so glad to welcome you to our team of historical tour guides.  Before I let you out "in the field" of tour guiding, I need you to do some research.  We can't have you going out on the town giving tourists fake information!  Go to the task page of this website to find out what you need to do to begin your amazing career as a Historical Tour Guide!

Task

Here at FLAT-C, we are known for our authentic historical tours.  That's why all the historians come to us when they need accurate information on history in Florida, especially about the oldest city in the entire United States!  To prepare you for your job as a tour guide, you will need to create a Keynote or an iMovie with the historical information you learn about St. Augustine with your business partner.  This presentation will need to have accurate historical facts about St. Augustine.  This will prove to us that you are ready to go out into the field and tour!  Now go ahead to the Process page to find out exactly what information you will need to find.

Process

Your presentation must include accurate historical facts about the following things:

  • Where is St. Augustine? This must be a more detailed answer than "Florida."
  • Who first settled in St. Augustine?  Where did they come from?
  • Why did the settlers come to St. Augustine in the first place?  Why did they stay?
  • When was St. Augustine founded?
  • Find and research at least 3 historical sites around St. Augustine.  Why are they famous?

Your presentation must include factual information and answer each of the above questions.  You must include pictures for all of the facts and information you are presenting.  Be sure you are using correct grammar, capitalization, and punctuation whenever you are typing information.   With your business partner, decide if you are going to do a Keynote presentation or an iMovie.  Then you must begin your research!  Your supervisor will give you a graphic organizer to help you keep all your facts and sources organized.  For a digital copy, click the link below. You will also find other resources about the history of St. Augustine.   The blue Social Studies textbook also has some great information on page 124.
