At this point in the unit, we have learned the historical events that led to Anne Frank going into hiding with her family. She wasn’t the only child that had to go into hiding. Today you will be learning about other children that also had to go into hiding. How are these children different than any other child?
By the end of this webquest, you will know facts and details about another child who was in hiding. You will learn what life was like in hiding and compare the experience of your child to another child that your partner chose.
Finally you will write a paragraph reflecting on what you have learned in this webquest. Did these children survive? Will Anne Frank survive or will she suffer a different fate?
Task One:
Go to the Hidden Like Anne Frank website.
Task Two:
Read about two or three children and choose one child from the list. Record it on the form. You may not choose a child someone else has chosen.
Task Three:
Your task is to answer a series of questions about the child you are studying. Be sure to answer all the questions thoroughly. Use the form located in the Google Classroom. When you have answered all the questions, take the time to finish reading the rest of the pages about your child.
Task four:
When you have thoroughly read and recorded answers about your child, move on to the comparison chart. Choose one classmate and complete the compare and contrast questions together.
Task five:
Finally write a reflection paragraph about your child and the similarities you found between the two children.
Evaluation:
Students will be evaluated on this webquest by assessing the paragraphs they have written.
The paragraph should be clearly written with:
This rubric will be used to assess your work. You will be writing the paragraph on the task sheet.
After completing this webquest, you have learned that these children were not much different than you. Did they deserve this persecution because of their faith? Many of these children said their religion wasn't the center of their lives.
What if you had to go into hiding because of something you can't control about your life?
The book: Hidden Like Anne Frank has excellent examples of other children who were hidden like Anne Frank was. Fortunately these children survived to tell their stories.
The website provides interactive information that allows students to further read about some of those children.
I would like to personally thank Marcel Prins and Joodse Omroep for providing such an excellent resource.
