Introduction
How much do we know about drugs?
Drugs are chemicals that change the way a person's body works. You've probably heard that drugs are bad for you, but what does that mean and why are they bad?
In the next WebQuest, that is focused to highschool students, you will learn all you need about them, from good to bad. You will also realize that in drugs are included alcohol or tobacco. You will use a lot of resources too that can help you in the future.
Task
Students will form groups of 4 and each group will be assign a computer, so they can look up for information. This will encourage their skills of research and summarize, as well as collaborative work.
With this webquest you will learn:
* What drugs really are
* Addiction to drugs
* Consequences
* How to prevent addiction
Process
Task 1: First, you will have to take this quiz, in order to know how much you know about drugs. This will also help you in the next tasks.
Task 2: Look for information on the web about what drugs really are, this site can help you out.
Task 3: Take a pause within the group and discuss about the information you just found. Share with your classmates the information and comment about what you knew before and what you have realized know. Is there any change? Why?
Task 4: Now investigate for information about the different types of drugs there are and the consequences they produce, such as addiction. Here are some examples.
Task 5: You will have to create a table, clasiffying 3 of them, and giving a brief explanation about them.
Task 6: It is turn now to learn about the drugs that can be classified as "good". Look for information about medicinal drugs and in what way they help. Look information from at least 3 websites. You can guide yourself with the next one.
Task 7: As you final task, you will have to think of ideas on how to prevent addiction to drugs by using the information you have searched. Also, you will have to create a short summary ( or list, whatever you prefer) of it and include personal thoughts about them. Finally, post your comments in the next WordPress, so we can discuss them in the classroom later with all your classmates.
Evaluation
For the evaluation: As a group, you will have to create a brief presentation about what you found out of drugs and create a short dialogue of either a bad case of addiction to drugs with its respectives consequences or a good case of prevention to drugs (4 minutes long).
