Introduction
In this WebQuest you will learn about the Gold Rush. The Gold Rush was a time that people searched for gold in mountains and often got injuried during their work. The Call of the Wild was set in the time of the Gold Rush, you will learn about why the sled dogs were needed during the Gold Rush. You will learn about the sled dogs, the Gold Rush and why Call of the Wild was set in this time.
Task
You will make a PowerPoint or a Google Presentation answering questions about the Gold Rush, Call of the Wild, and sled dogs. There will be pictures, paragraphs and you will cite the websites that you got your information from.
Process
WHAT THE WEBQUEST INCLUDES:
FIRST STEP:
Make a PowerPoint or Google Presentation that you will use for the WebQuest. You will need around 10 slides in the power point or presentation. This includes:
SLIDE 1:
This will be the introduction, you will put your name, a picture and a small description about the PowerPoint or Presentation. NOTE: You will have to make the WebQuest pretty, make it colorful but not distracting.
SLIDE 2:
This will have a summary of Call of the Wild, this will be in hamburger format and should cover every chapter of the book. Be sure to cite any information from the book and have any information the book gives about the Gold Rush on this slide.
SLIDE 3:
This will have a paragraph about the Gold Rush in Hamburger format. You will answer the following questions:
- What was the Gold Rush?
- Where did it take place?
- Why did people want gold?
- When did it start?
- Why did it start?
- Where did it end?
- Why did it end?
Be sure to keep track of any websites you use, you will need to cite the links of the websites and put it in an ending slide. NOTE: You may NOT use Wikipedia as your only website.
SLIDE 4:
You will have a paragraph about why sled dogs were necessary during the Gold Rush. You will answer the following questions:
- Why was there a need for sled dogs during the Gold Rush?
- What were the dogs used for?
- How many dogs were on one dog sled team?
- What dog breeds did they use for dog sled teams or did they just use any type of dog?
Be sure to keep track of any websites you use, you will need to cite the links of the websites and put it in an ending slide.
SLIDE 5:
You will have a paragraph about why you think the author wrote Call of the Wild in the time of the Gold Rush. Answer the following questions:
- In what way did the Gold Rush contribute to the book?
- Why do you think the author chose the time of the Gold Rush for Call of the Wild?

SLIDE 6:
Find pictures of the Gold Rush. The pictures should be of:
- the gold mines
- Gold Rush transportation
- sled dogs
- any other pictures from Gold Rush times

SLIDE 10:
Copy and paste all of the websites you used in the webquest in this slide in link form. You will need to cite anything you used including books and websites.
SECOND STEP:
Check over the power point or presentation, check for any information, grammatical, etc. errors.
LAST STEP:
Email the link or somehow share it to me.
