Introduction
Picture yourself fighting in an unfamiliar country for an unknown reason. Suddenly, you hear a soft noise in the distance. You and other soldiers freeze, but there is nothing. Once you feel safe, you begin walking again. However, someone falls into a trap, and then the rest of the platoon are suddenly attacked by a group of enemy soldiers. They hid perfectly in the trees! Who are these people that were able to successfully ambush your platoon?

Our goal is to help our audience to learn about the role of the Viet Cong in the Vietnam War between 1955 to 1975.
Task
The Viet Cong were the enemy forces that the United States and the South Vietnamese armies fought against during the Vietnam War. The Viet Cong were situated in Northern Vietnam.

While searching through various websites about the Viet Cong, you will learn vast information about who they were, what they stood for, their tactics, and other important events for the Viet Cong in the Vietnam War.
Process
There are three parts to complete to gain more knowledge about the Viet Cong.

Your first assignment is to read and answer the following list of questions. If you are having trouble answering them, refer to the list of available websites at the bottom of this page, for they are there to help you not only complete the webquest, but to also help you learn more about the Viet Cong!
1. Who was the military arm of the National Liberation Force?
2. The Viet Cong was also known as the ____ ____ ____ ____.
3. A trap of sharp spikes hidden in pits was known as a _____ trap.
4. A strategic Viet Cong offensive took place on the holy day of ______.
5. Who was the leader of the PAVN?
6. How many communist or Viet Cong soldiers were killed in the Battle of Hue?
7. Which base area had almost 200 miles of tunnels?
8. The Viet Cong were famous for their _____ warfare.
9. What weapon were most Viet Cong soldiers armed with?
10. What was the main effect of the Tet Offensive?
11. Most of the weapons the Viet Cong used were made in which two countries?
Your second assignment in this webquest is to research three weapons the Viet Cong used to fight their enemies, the United States and South Vietnam. Then, write a report based on the information. For each weapon, make sure to include the following:

a) The name of the weapon.
b) Its primary use in war (i.e. this weapons was used in an air defense role, ground attack/defense).
c) Some of the major components to the weapon.
d) (If applicable) How did the Viet Cong obtain the weapon?
e) Any other important features of the weapon (e.g. rpm, range, and/or popularity).

Your final assignment is to construct a brief journal entry from the point of view of a Viet Cong warrier. The journal entry should be a minimum length of one page, double spaced. Be sure to include why the soldier joined the Viet Cong and a battle he fought against the Americans and South Vietnamese. You can include traps he/she set up and weapons he/she used to destroy various military weapons the Americans were using.
