Introduction

Have you ever felt the burning sensation when u have touched a hot object?
Have you touched a steel plate and a plastic container at the same time and noticed that the steel plate is much cooler?
Do you feel hot while walking outside on a sunny day?
We experience all these because of transfer of heat through conduction convection or radiation. These processes have a huge impact in our environment.
Task

For this webquest students will be working online to gain an understanding on how heat energy is transferred from one object to another. Students will progress through a series of links and videos to gain an understanding about heat transfer. Upon completion the students will complete the given work sheet.
Process
PART 1
Watch the video given below to get an understanding of what heat energy is and answer the questions given below.
Answer the following questions after watching the video.
1. What happens when you touch a hot pot?
2.What is heat?
3. How does heat energy travel?
4. What is temperature?
5. Name the instrument used to measure temperature.
Part 2
Watch the interactive video given on the link below. Click on each of the bubbles to get further information. Click play video in each individual section.

After watching the video answer the following questions:
.1. Name some good conductors.
2. What is conduction?
3. What is convection?
4. How does sun's heat reach earth?
5. What is radiation?
6. Name two insulators.
Evaluation
| Poor | Average | Good | Excellent | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Students answered questions in part 1 | No questions have been answered or all the answers are incorrect | Three questions answered accurately | Four questions answered accurately | All questions answered accurately |
| Students answered questions in part 2 | No questions have been answered or all the answers are incorrect | Two questions answered accurately | Four questions answered accurately | All questions answered accurately |
Conclusion
At the conclusion of this project, students will be able to identify the difference between heat and temperature.
They will also be able to define conduction, convection and radiation and differentiate between each.
Identify how heat is transferred through each process in their surroundings.
