Introduction

In this webquest the students will complete the following objectives:

Objective 1: 

The student will understand the multicultural aspects of food. The student will complete a research project to identify and describe the various roles that food plays within the following countries:

Ukranine        Mexico            Italy               Greece                 England                  

Japan            India           Germany           Canada                 France

The reasearch project will describe the following concepts and present the information in a Powerpoint presentation with pictures and references. 

How the climate and geography affects foods in the region

What are the staple foods in the region

Symbolism of food in the culture

History of food in the culture

Gender roles in preparing food in the culture

Does the culture use specific flavors or spices

How does the economy affect food choices in the culture

Are there any superstitions, religious values, taboos about food in the culture

What is the role of food in the cultures celebrations

Objective 2:  Choose a country and make a full course meal from that country with regional cusine

Students will choose one of the countries listed above, or one not listed with permission of the instructor, and develop a 4 course meal.  The menu must include a beverage, appetizer, side dish, main course and a dessert.  Students must conisder presentation and ensure it is culturally relevant.
