Hakuna Matata Character Costumes

            Hakuna Matata

                 Room 13 and 14

Room 13 and 14 are presenting a dance to

accompany the song Hakuna Matata in our

school production.

We have learnt most of the dance, which

already looks amazing.

We would like you to become the costume designers.

Our dance needs to include African bugs and butterflies.

1.

You need to first decide if you would like to design

the costume for an African bug or an African butterfly.

2.

You will then need to research your choice to find out about it.

How is your audience going to know what it is?

What are its notable features?

What colours are they known to be?

3.

Begin designing your costume. Remember to consider

these when planning your costume:

         -space

         -practicality

         -resource availability

         -time

4.

Create a video showing your design and explaining

why you choose the design you did.

On this rubric, which square would you choose to best share how you did under each heading?

Choosing bug or butterfly? Researching your insect. Designing your insect. Explaining your choices
Basic I didn't make a choice, the teacher had to provide me with one. I looked up my choice and found a picture of it. I did not complete a design, but I may have made a plan that showed consideration of colours. I could not explain why I made my design the way I did.
Developing I thought of my own, but took a while to choose it or changed my mind once or twice. I looked up my choice, found a picture of it and considered its colour. My design shows that I considered the colours and one or two features of my insect. I considered the practicalities of creating my design (i.e. stage space, resources available and creation time).
Expert I choose my own insect by myself and got onto the next task quickly. I looked up my choice, found a picture of it and considered its colour and many of its features.

I portrayed the elements (such as the colour and the many features I noticed about it) in my design.

I considered the practicalities of stage space, resources available and creation time when creating my design.

From these wonderful designs the teachers of Room 13 and 14 are going to choose some that can be used for our dance in the production.

Have fun!
