Task
Although teenagers are some of the most philosophically prolific social media posters in America today, they are also some of the most laconic when it comes to satisfying the curiosity of adults in postions of authority.
Nevetheless, our students opened up about a few of the things on their minds today about education, life and what it means to grow up in America today.
Process
Q: What are your favorite types of lessons?
A: Labs are my favorite type of lesson because we actually get to participate and do it instead of just learn about it.
Q: Is college important to you?
A: Yes. I want to get into one so I can get a good job.
Q: What's a good job?
A: One that doesn't serve food.
Q: What do you think dress code rules should be?
A: Well, it's not like someone is going to go to school naked? I think we should be able to wear what we want. My elemetary school teacher used to threaten us with dress-code just to get us to leave him alone. He'd say, "get away from me or I'll dress code you" and we'd all run away. ha haha!
Q: What do you like most and least about school?
A: School is good cause we get to see our friends. It's bad cause we have to wake up early and catch a bus.
Q: is there much diversity at GVHS?
A: I only have one girl in my class that's special ed and she's quiet and does her work. No one treats her differently.
Q: Have you seen bullying?
A: I've seen fights. I haven't seen bullying. There's this one guy in my first and second period who is annoying, though. He dissed another guy's Valentine card to his girlfriend.
Q:
A lot of students compare school to prison so we shouldn't make it more like that.
Online school: I wouldn't like to go to online classes because I wouldn't trust myself to stay off FB or social media sites instead of doing my work. I like being social at school. I also think you can ask questions of the teacher faster and get a faster response.
