Green is Good

Introduction

Plants are essential organisms in our every day life. There are various types and ways that they work.

  • Plants are an important part of human’s life in many different ways. Oxygen is one of the products of plants, as well as fruits. In order for plants to disperse there needs to be a form of reproduction. The majority is done through pollination this is when pollen (sperm) transfers from a male plant part, the anther, to a female plant into the stigma which is then taken to the ovary where the ovule will become a seed. For pollination to begin the pollen must cross and this can be done through many things such as, people, wind, insects, birds, and animals. Plants also depend on sunlight, water, oxygen, carbon dioxide and natural minerals from the ground in order to survive and create energy.

  1. Students will learn the importance of plants and some minor and major structures that help them. Students shall gain knowledge of important vocabulary that tie into the topic.
  • 2-LS2-2. Develop a simple model that mimics the function of an animal in dispersing seeds or pollinating plants.

  • 2-LS4-1. Make observations of plants and animals to compare the diversity of life in different habitats. [Clarification Statement: Emphasis is on the diversity of living things in each of a variety of different habitats.] [Assessment Boundary: Assessment does not include specific animal and plant names in specific habitats.]

  • 2-ETS1-1. Ask questions, make observations, and gather information about a situation people want to change to define a simple problem that can be solved through the development of a new or improved object or tool.

  • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.2.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text relevant to a grade 2 topic or subject area.
