Great Pacific Garbage Patch by Mr. Lin

Introduction

Hello Students,

Today you will be embarking on a journey of following where our trash goes throughout the world. By investigating the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, we can see why trash doesn't disappear, where it goes, and where it ends up.

By studying this we will also be able to come up with our own solutions to how we can solve this problem.

Task

For this WebQuest, please research the following:

  • What are the main causes of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch?
  • What are some of the effects of the GPGP to the Earth's environment?
  • What are some of the effects for humans?
  • What are some possible solutions that can be implemented to reduce or eliminate the GPGP and garbage throughout the world?

Process

Please review the information and links in the follow slideshow:

Recycling and Biodegradeablility

Evaluation

Decide upon one solution type. Design a solution based on that criteria:

  1. Improve the biodegradability of waste

  2. Create less waste/reusables

  3. Better ways to clean up and dispose of waste

Create a Google Slides presentation about how you will be implementing your solution, why you believe it will be effective, and how it can be improved further.

Conclusion

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch and garbage in general is most likely not going away anytime soon. We must continue to not only create and design new solutions for its reduction but also be prepared to live with its existence for many years to come.
