The Great Gatsby

Introduction

The Great Gatsby takes place during the 1920s or also known as the roaring 20s! Since we have not read this book we are going to take a look at what was going on during that time so that we can better understand the book and its references. The four topics we will focus on will be F. Scott Fitzgerald, prohibition, flappers, and the 1920s.

Task

Students will work together as a group of 4-5. After you know what your group is assigned you will begin your research. Each group will put the information into the class good doc so that all student will have access to back  the background information!

Group 1: You will focus on F. Scott Fitzgerald. After looking at the website provided in the process tab you will copy down and answer when The Great Gatsby was written, two major influences on Fitzgerald and his writings, and one interesting fact about him.

Group 2: You will focus on prohibition. After looking at the website provided on the process tab you will copy down and answer when did prohibition begin, why did prohibition begin, and how did it lead to organized crime.

Group 3: You will focus on flappers. After looking at the website provided on the process tab you will copy down and answer what was a flapper and what did they stand for.

Group 4: You will focus on why this time period was called the roaring 20s. After looking at the tab provided you will copy down what major event had just ended, why the end of this event led to such an exciting time in history.

Evaluation

The work will be graded as a completion grade. Students will need to make sure all work is uploaded to the class google doc to be shared with other students. All questions need to be answered in order to get full credit.

Conclusion

Through out this WebQuest I hope that you have been able to find out some new information or to be reminded of something you already knew! Knowing what was happening during a time period is important so that we can understand the references of the book we are reading!
