Introduction
Knowing how to read transformations of graphs is important... Why you may ask?
You will be able to quickly read trendlines, if a graph stretches, reflected, or manipulated by the equations. This is particularly useful for analyzing complex functions and solving problems in various mathematical fields, including algebra, calculus, and statistics.
We will graph some functions by hand and then use technology to what how quickly transformations can affect graphs.
First, we will all watch this video: it quickly describes basics of how to transform a graph.
Task
We will have three tasks today
-We will begin with a worksheet that first starts with simple transformations then increases in difficulty
I will help will the first few examples
You will have the option to work in pairs/groups for the first task
The SECOND TASK is involves Desmos and creating your own equations
THIRD/LAST- Exit Ticket
I provided three questions for after the lesson.
Process
****FIRST====We will solve the first three pages of the attached worksheet. I will provide printed versions if paper worksheets is your preference.
*I will provide in class help and work out the first two problems*
To mark on the worksheet on your computer.
1. Download worksheet
2.Open file in file explorer
3. Use Kami-document editor (It is already installed on your school provided computers)
===You can work in pairs/groups ONLY for the worksheet===
****Second=== Use Desmos to create your own transformations
After seeing how transformations occur, you will create FOUR complex equations of your own!
What four equations? (none can be copied from the worksheet)
-A negative horizontally stretch graph with a vertically down translation
-A negative or positive horizontally compressed graph with vertically up translation
-A reflection graph over the x-axis with some vertical translation
-A reflection graph over the y-axis with some vertical translation
You will type out your equations in Desmos and then screenshot the graph with the equation shown. You can upload the photos into one google docs. Submission is described in the last task. (The next part will need your google docs)
***THIRD (Last)- Exit ticket
$Three questions$
-Is there something that still confuses you or you have trouble with graph transformations?
-Did you prefer the worksheet or the Desmos activity?
-What is your favorite animated movie?
Write these in the google docs you started for task two and then submit in the assignment task!
Congrats! You are done!!!

| Total | _/30 |
HALF POINTS ARE POSSIBLE
I WILL DETAIL WHAT YOU GOT INCORRECT
Conclusion
Exit ticket
-Is there something that still confuses you or you have trouble with graph transformations?
Answer honestly so I can help you individually or cover it tomorrow in class. I want to help you completely understand what you may struggle with! I cannot help you or other students if you do not answer with what you have trouble with!
-Did you prefer the worksheet or the Desmos activity?
Answer Honestly because in the future I will do more activities you students enjoy! Or tell me if you did not like either/ what would like to see more in class!
-What is your favorite animated movie?
Mine personally is ratatouille
