Introduction
Hello I&S students. Welcome to your first WebQuest! This WebQuest will help you to understand primary and secondary sources. Let's begin!
Task
Today, you will be a historian. A historian is someone who studies history.
Historians analyze sources to understand our past.
A source is just something that tells us about history. A letter can be a source. A textbook can be a source.
As a historian, you will be finding information about The Opium Wars.
Process
Step 1: Open up a Microsoft Word (or Apple Pages) document.
Step 2: Save your document as "(your name) Opium War Research." Like this, "Mr. Campbell Opium War Research". Don't use my name. Use your name! :)
Step 3: At the top of your Word document, write a title. Your title can also be "(your name) Opium War Research." Don't use my name, use yours. :)
Step 4: In your Word document, write "Primary Source Example." Use Google Search and find three pictures of a primary sources. Copy and paste or save it into your Word document. Label each one what it is.
Step 5: In your Word document, write "Secondary Source Example." Use Google Search and find three pictures of a secondary sources. Copy and paste or save it into your Word document. Label each one what it is.
Step 6: In your Word document, write "Opium War Primary Source Example." Use Google Search and find one picture of a primary source during the Opium War. Remember, this primary source must have been created at the time of the Opium War. Copy and paste it into your Word document.
Step 7: In your Word document, write one sentence explaining what this is and why you think it is a primary source.
Step 8: Bonus point! Find another picture of a primary source during the Opium War!
Step 9: Save your Word document and share it into our Microsoft Teams I&S Group!
