Hello Grade 2s! It is time for us to go on an adventure where we will be exploring the world map and location.
What are the 7 continent of the world?
What are the 5 oceans on Earth?
What are cardinal directions and how do we use them on a map?
What will we learn about the 7 continents of the world?
You will watch videos, you will find out all about mapping and location and there is even a fun game to try out!

Welcome to our Mapping and Location Adventure! You and your partner are about to start your journey around the world, you will learn about the continents and the oceans of the world.
You will learn about cardinal directions and how they are used to locate places on a map.
On your adventure you will also explore maps and learn how to colour and label a world map.
That's not all, you will also travel to one of the 7 continents of the world. You and your partner will be assigned a continent and you will gather information about your continent. You will create an infographic and report back to our class telling us of your travels.

Process
Part 1: 7 Continents of the World
Together with your partner view the video: 7 Continents of the World
After viewing the video, go to https://eit.hdsb.ca/elementary-internet-tools/information-databases
1. Click on Pebble Go Social Studies. Remember to log in use your HDSB username and password OR use the following log in:

2. Click on Maps
3. Click on The World On Maps
4. Click on Continents On Maps
With your partner read or listen to the information about continents. Use the information from Pebble Go and the video to fill in your organizer about continents on page 1 of your travel package.
Part 2: 5 Oceans of the World
Together with your partner view the following video: Oceans of the World. As you watch the video take note of 3 interesting facts you learned to share with your partner.
After viewing the video, share your two interesting facts with your partner. Then go to https://eit.hdsb.ca/elementary-internet-tools/information-databases

4. Click on Oceans of the World
With your partner read or listen to the information about Oceans. Use the information from Pebble Go and the video to fill in your organizer about oceans on page 2 of your travel package.
CHECK POINT #1 - Check in with your teacher and show her your completed organizers. You will need to receive your golden star to proceed to Part 3.
Part 3: Labelling a World Map
Here are 2 fun songs to remind us of the 7 continents and 5 oceans. Have a listen and then label your map!
With your partner, take a look at the World Map below. On page 3 of your travel package, label the map with the 7 continents and 5 oceans.

Part 4: Cardinal Directions: North, East, South, West
With your partner view the following videos about North, East, South, West and how we use them to find locations on map.
After listening to both videos, complete page 4 in your travel package to correctly identify which continent each question is asking you to locate on the map. Remember to use the compass rose on the map to know which way is North, South, East and West.
CHECK POINT #2 - Check in with your teacher and show her your completed maps. You will need to receive your golden star to proceed to the Game and Part 6

Part 6: Continents Up Close
You and your partner have been assigned 1 of the 7 continents. Pack your bags, grab your travel package and let's get started!

3. Click on the continent you have been assigned
With your partner read or listen to the information about continents. Use the information from Pebble Go to fill in your organizer about your continent on page 5 of your travel package.

Find the video about your continent, watch it and add information about your continent to your organizer.
CHECK POINT #3 - Check in with your teacher and show her your completed organizer. You will need to receive your golden star to proceed to creating your infographic on a Google Slide.
Once you have completed your check point with your teacher, you will use the information you have gathered and together with your partner you will create a 1 slide infographic on Google Slides. Click on the link below to look at the example for inspiration!
