Introduction
When someone experiences a traumatic event, such as being abused, robbed or kidnapped, that individual develop a coping mechanism that they will use to help them to survive that event. A person may suffer physical, emotional and mental damage. A well known coping mechanism that helps an individual to survive a traumatic event is known as 'Stockholm Syndrome'.
Have you ever encountered an article or movie that involves Stockholm Syndrome? Think about Walt Disney's children's film, 'Beauty and the Beast', although it has an enchanting movie with a happy ending for children and adults to enjoy, is it really just a fairytale? Was Belle a victim of Stockholm Syndrome?

Stockholm Syndrome is not an "easy" coping mechanism, it does not create happy endings. It is a psychological illness that causes the victim great pain and confusion.
Task
For this task, you will write a write a descriptive essay in which you explore the theme of Stockholm Syndrome. Use MS Word to write your essay. Your essay should include:
- a cover page with your name and surname, your class, the submission date
- the topic that you have chosen to write your essay on
- a title for your essay
- a minimum of two pages for the descriptive essay
- a word count at the end of your essay, put it in brackets
As this is a creative writing task, this will not follow the normal essay format. You may include a maximum of 3 pictures, however, these pictures should be appropriate, non provocative and PG-13 please! Place the pictures in the correct place so that it flows with your essay.
Allow the resources given to you, to guide you with this essay. Gather your own additional information, if you feel like it will help, and have fun exploring the topic.
Process
Descriptive Essay Instructions:
Write a descriptive essay in which you imagine a scenario whereby a victim has developed Stockholm Syndrome. You may choose which point of view to write the essay from. Your choices are:
- You are a victim that has experienced a traumatic event, for example being kidnapped by a stalker. You have to describe what happened before the abduction, where the person took you, how you developed Stockholm Syndrome and why, how you were rescued or if you were not rescued, and how you felt when everything was over.
- You write from the point of view of the abductor/kidnapper.
- You are a detective who is investigating a case of someone who has gone missing. You uncover that the victim has developed Stockholm Syndrome. Write your essay as a crimes detective.
Set the mood and tone for the essay and have fun with your essay writing. Be creative!
