Introduction
Welcome to your Micro-organisms WebQuest! This WebQuest is designed to help better your understanding of the living organisms that are so tiny that they cannot be seen with the naked eye.
Task
In groups of 4-5, you are required to make either an E-poster on Microsoft Word OR a Slide Show Presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint that includes the following information:
- The four types of micro-organisms, their basic structure as well as their general characteristics.
- The diseases caused by micro-organisms.
Process
There are links provided below to aid in your quest to find the information you are looking for. Every learner is required to write the information in their Life Sciences notebooks. Make sure you paraphrase the information and reference it correctly. Your research should answer the following questions:
- What are micro-organisms?
- Provide another term for “micro-organisms”.
- What are the four groups of micro-organisms?
- Based on your answer in question 2, complete the following table:

- List a few diseases caused by microorganisms. Remember to name the disease and the micro-organism that causes it.
You will have two 45-minute sessions in the computer lab to complete this part of the WebQuest. Good luck!
Evaluation
Once you have gathered your information and written it down, you are required to present your information in groups of 4-5 using either an E-poster on Microsoft Word OR a Slide Show Presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint.
Due: A week after you have finished gathering your information. Date will be discussed in class.
Points: 40
Your work will be evaluated as follows:
0-10 points – Incomplete: All steps have not been completed.
11-20 points – Satisfactory: Requirements have been met with little explanation of micro-organisms.
21-30 points – Good: Basic overall requirements have been met.
31-40 points – Excellent: Exceeded overall requirements.
Conclusion
Once you have completely finished your presentation, you are required to reflect on your learning experience. This will be due a week after you have submitted your presentation and will be completed individually.

- What was your greatest challenge during this WebQuest?
- What did you find interesting about this WebQuest?
- Was the WebQuest Successful?
- Are there any ways to improve for future WebQuests?
