Grade 10 Mathematical Literacy - Tariffs

Introduction

Good Morning Students.

I welcome you to the new month of the year and hope that we will all progress well.

The purpose of this webquest is for you to understand what tariffs are by doing ample research and then writing an essay of why tariffs are being used in our day to day lives.

The main focus will be the different types of Tariffs that the consumer has.

I have attached a video below of a brief explanation of tariffs and the different tariffs there are.

Task

Write an essay of no more than 350 words where you discuss the definition of Tariffs, the different forms of tariffs as well as how we as consumers use it daily.

This essay can include diagrams and pictures but do not forget to be clear and concise on what you are speaking about.

This essay should include:

  • A cover page.
  • A title for your essay.
  • A biography list of where you found your information.
  • A rubric attached.

Do not copy from sources as I will see if it is your own work.

Process

You have just landed a job at the Cape Town Municipal office as an accounts administrator. A future accounting student is job shadowing and it is your duty to explain to her what tariffs are, how we use it and the different types of tariffs.

  1. State the different types of tariffs.
  2. Explanation of tariffs.
  3. How tariffs can be grouped together.

Your essay should include the following:

  • An introduction of tariffs
  • A body on your detailed explanation
  • Conclusion- Why tariffs are used etc.

Make sure that you understand everything that is being taught and that you know the tariffs inside and out.

This tutorial does not only count 10% of your year mark but if you understand this then when your September exam arrives in three weeks you will be fully prepared.
