Read the following poem by the author and watch the additional notes on the video provided about the poem: "Because i could not stop for death" 479 ( Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)

Emily Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830, in Amherst, Massachusetts. While she was extremely prolific as a poet and regularly enclosed poems in letters to friends, she was not publicly recognized during her lifetime. She died in Amherst in 1886, and the first volume of her work was published posthumously in 1890.

Process
Activity 1: Once you have completed reading the poem and thorougly reading and watching the notes about the poem, complete the following questions with your own understanding about the poem.
1. Provide an explanation based on your own understanding as to why the poet 'Emily Dickinson' wrote this poem.
2. What does the title mean "because i could not stop for death"?
3. The word 'kindly' is used in the first stanza of the poem, why is the this an irony in the poem?
4. "And i had to put away my labour and my liesure too", explain what the poet means.
5. What kind of tone is used by the author? and how does it affect the mood of the poem?
6. Provide a personification found in the poem and explain it in your own words.
7. Who was this poem written for and why?
8. What does the carriage represent in the poem?
9. There is an important theme "immorality", what is meant by immorality?
10. What is death personified as within the poem?
11. "He" is repeated through out the poem, who is the poet referring to?
12. In your own words provide a detailed explanation on the image below and what it represents in the poem.
