In the middle of the night their is a knock at the door and life is forever changed.Soviet secret police arrested Lina, her mother, and younger brother, tearing the family apart. The three are are hauled from their home and thrown into cattle cars with many people. They soon discover their destination is to Siberia. Lina embeds clues in her drawings on a hankercheif and secretly passes them along, hoping they will reach her fathers prison camp. Along this journey Lina discovers more and more and experiences more than any family should. Lina experiances hatred, but lots of love through out this journey with her family. In this dramatic and moving story,Lina desperatly fights for her life and the lives of those around her.But will love be enough to keep her alive?

Well Linas love saves some lives but not all. Lina saves many lives but loses the ones she cared for most. Her father and mother where lost in this fight between freedom. Lina had burried a wooden box in the ground with a large glass jar full of papers the papers had said ,and I quote; Dear friend,

The wrighting and drawings you hold in your hands were buried in the year of 1954,after returning from Siberia with my brother, where we were imprisoned for twelve years. Their are many, thousands of us,nearly all dead. Those alive cannot speak. Though we commisted no offense,we are viewed as criminals. Even now, speaking of the terrors we have experienced would result in our death. So we put our trust in you,the person who discovers this capsule of memories sometime in the future. We trust you with truth for contained herein is exactly that- the truth.

My husband,Andrius, says that evil will rule until good men or women choose to act. I believe him. This testimony was written to creat an absolute record.to speak in a world where our voices have been extinguished. These writings may shock or horrify you,but that is not is not my intention. It is my greatest hope that the pages in this jar stir your deepest well of human compassion. I hope they prompt you to do something,to tell someone. Only then can we ensure that this kind of evil is never allowed to repeat itself.

                                                              Sincerely,

                                                            Mrs.Lina Arvydas

Does that end the story for you? In my opinion, this is a great book but tragic. You should read it,the way the words are its like the author actually experienced everything that happend. Theirs so much detail. Just by reading the book, I felt as if i was in the book. Because of all the detail I could imagine all the things that where in the book in my head, its like I created my own picture book in my head. I strongly suggest for you to read the book to.
