Government Web quest (IB-PYP)

Introduction

Grade Four Fellow Citizens,

During our fifth transdisciplinary theme "How we Organize Ourselves", we will have the opportunity to examine how the development of governments is related to individuals' perspectives.

Governments are usually formed to serve the people but that is not the case all the time. In this web quest, you are asked to research different forms of government over time and in modern days.

In groups you will be given tasks that can demonstrate your understanding of the central idea, key concepts and the knowledge you are building through your readings and search.

When you have finished, you will be presenting your findings to your class in order to help them as citizens to make the right choice about the best form of government possible to serve them or us. We look forward to hearing your findings. Good luck!

Task

Your task is to explore various types of governments in order to figure out which would work best for your people. Look at the positives and negatives of each and decide if they are right for your society and what you stand for as a nation.

Once you have made your decision you will create a power point presentation outlining which type of government you chose. You should include reasons you chose it and reasons you did not choose the others (think about what you stand for as a nation).

Process

Each group member will research one form of government: Dictatorship, Monarchy, Communism, Republic or Democracy. Only 1 person per role please, and if you do not have 4 group members you will all need to share the 4th role!

  1. Each group member will use the links provided to research answers to their questions.
  2. Each group member will share their findings with the other group members to compile a complete view of the forms of government.
  3. The group will complete a project to present to the class. The project will be in the form of a powerpoint presentation using the information they have uncovered. The project should highlight the reasons you chose the form of government for your people and explain why you did NOT choose each of the others.
  4. Each group member will turn in the answers to their research questions on the day they present their project to the class
