Australians at Gallipoli Museum Display

Introduction

You have been instructed by your museum director to plan a display about Australians in Gallipoli during WWI. You will need to work in teams to be effective.

Take the virtual tour of the Australian War Memorial Museum to see how they use their materials for producing displays.

Task

1.      Each team will prepare a report for the museum director.

         What 'story' would you tell in this display?
         What historical materials will you use in the display?
         How will you locate these materials in their historical context?

         "Australian involvement in Gallipoli was essential!"

         This 'argument' will be crucial to the planning of your display.
         How will you display the materials?

2.      Each individual will prepare a report that reflects your 'argument' and its impact on the display.

Process

Classroom Organisation.

You will work in teams. Each team will produce and present a report.
Teams should share responsibilities and tasks. 
Each member of the team has a contribution to make to the team report.
Each member of the team will have an individual reflective report to complete. 

The research for this assignment should be able to be completed in 5 lessons (5x60 min).  

Your team report to the director will take the form of an oral report accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation. 
Your individual report should reflect the 'argument' you constructed and its impact on your display.

*primary accounts from Gallipoli survivors 

*primary accounts from other Australians (Parents, politicians, factory workers...)

*were there women in Gallipoli?

*were there indigenous soldiers there?

*what was the role of the Red Cross?

*who was Vera Deakin and why was she important?

*appropriate images / graphics

*a report log outlining the decisions / choices that your group made in preparing the museum 'display'
