Global Summit for Sustainable Development

Introduction

Global Summit is a leading forum to support the advancement of knowledge and application, spur next-generation innovation and accelerate sustainable development. The Summit convenes  CISs and other leaders from communities around the world in an environment of open discussion and collaboration to come up with solutions to improve the sustainability of our countries.

Together, we measure progress toward our respective goals, explore critical issues within the broad sustainable landscape, and determine community priorities. When we involve thought leaders, decision-makers, engineers, and end users in the same conversation, we do amazing things. We hope you will join us for this exciting event.

Task

With your group, you will review a number of websites that provide background information on the factors of sustainable development.  You will also review some examples of top green cities, top cities of sustainability, and top innovations in sustainable development.  Then, you will choose a city or town to evaluate its current conditions, decide on how/what improvements can be made, and present your recommendations at the Global Summit. Each person in your group will choose one issue to address and speak for 4-5 minutes as you make your formal group presentation at the summit on Tuesday, December 5.  You can support it with a PPT, including maps, city plans, images for proposed changes, graphs to forecast the anticipated outcomes, etc.

Process

As a group, decide how you will divide up the videos, so that everyone is evenly informed.  That means that each member of your group should look at the first two, and one of the other webpages, but you can assign a different viewing to each person, for example,  each person in the group should choose one website and explore it completely, summarize the ideas in a document, and share it with your group.  Pay attention to the section headings of the website, and extra links at the end of the pages. Worksheets will be provided in the in class discussion sessions to note what you have studied.  Remember to paraphrase and summarize the information you review to maintain a high standard of academic integrity.
