Introduction
Hiya, motivated learner. The LEQs that you're trying to answer today are the following:
-
How did Social Darwinism develop and how did intellectuals and monopolists use it to justify their unethical practices?
-
How did the Populist Party influence elections and political decisions?
For each LEQ, there will be two seperate questions you will need to answer beforehand in order to complete this WebQuest.
Task
For LEQ no.1:
1. What is the relation between between Charle's Darwin's evolutionary theory as presented in his work "On the Origin of Species" and the concept of Social Darwinism as seen in the Gilded Age of American history? Present your findings in any form you please. You may use sources 1, 7, and 8, but are not confined to them.
2. Is Andrew Carnegie a Social Darwinist or is he a supporter of the Social Gospel movement? Can there be a middle ground? Support your thesis writing at least two paragraphs(or a really long one). Use source 2 and, if you prefer, take source 3 and the internet to help.
3. Now answer the first LEQ, or, if you feel confident that your previous two answers would make an adequate response to this task, simply refer to them.
For LEQ no.2:
4. What are the issues the American farmer faced? List at least two. You may use sources 4 and 5, but are not confined to them.
5. Describe the election of 1896. You may do so in form of two paragraphs or, if you prefer, a diagram. You may use sources 6 and 9, but are not confined to them.
6. Now answer the second LEQ, or, if you feel confident that your previous two answers would make an adequate response to this task, simply refer to them.
