Ancient Greece and Current Times

Introduction

How are our cultures and traditions similar and yet different from the Ancient Greeks?

As in almost all civilizations their culture and traditions are developed because of their religious beliefs. In ancient Greece myths were stories about gods and goddesses and were created mainly to explain all of life's experiences as well as natural occurences that could not be explained any other way.  Things such as the weather, death, illness, tragedies, great and bad harvests, birth, twins and love were explained.

In our life we, in this counrty and as Catholics, celebrate the Life of Jesus Christ and believe that He is the Son of the one true God and that anything is possible through God. We have the Ten Commandment and Bible stories as well as the Saints lives to guide us.

In religion, no matter if it is Ancient Myths or the teachings found in the Bible, people look to them for moral guidance and direction.

Conclusion

Class could be divided into two groups and each group assigned to act out either myths about gods and goddesses or Saints and bible stories as they relate to today's holiday and Holyday celebrations and traditions.

The groups could write a play, design a set, make costumes and perform for each other and maybe other classes..
