Food and Beveraage services 101: Table Napkin Folding

Introduction

Activity today is table napkin folding. This activity will captures your creativity and a glimpse to the Hospitality Industry. Before plates, before food, before the first bite—there’s the napkin a simple handkerchief that welcomes the guest before they can taste the food and service that we offers. Who knew a simple napkin could become a fan, a crown, or even a work of art? Today, your hands are the tools, the napkin is your canvas, and the table is your stage. Let’s see what you can create!

Task

In this activity, students will learn and practice the art of table napkin folding. Each student will be given a napkin and guided step-by-step through different folding techniques. (I can offer a demonstration via a video presentation and live action). The focus will be on following instructions, using neat and precise movements, and handling the napkin with care. Students will observe demonstrations, practice independently or in pairs, and make adjustments to improve their folds.

By the end of the activity, each student will produce a neatly folded napkin that is visually appealing, stable, and suitable for table presentation. The finished napkin should show clean lines, symmetry, and creativity, reflecting both skill and attention to detail. The final product should be ready to be placed on a dining table as part of a professional or well-presented table setting.

Process

1. Students will work in pairs to encourage collaboration and proper technique.

2. The instructor will demonstrate a simple or basic table napkin fold, followed by a video presentation showing more complex napkin folding designs.

3. Students will be given at least 30 minutes to practice, during which the instructor will monitor, assist, and give feedback.

4. For the final performance, each pair will be given 3–5 minutes to present 3–5 different table napkin folds, showcasing neatness, accuracy, and presentation.
