Exploring the Five Senses

Guiding Questions
  • How do our five senses help us comprehend and navigate the world around us?
  • What different parts of our body allow us to touch, taste, see, hear, and smell?
  • How different would life be if we were missing one of these senses
Learning Objective
  • Identify and name the five senses: sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch
  • Describe which body part is responsible for each sense
  • Explain and understand how each sense help us in our daily life
  • Create and present a PowerPoint project that teaches their peers about one of the five senses
Task

You and your peers will work as "Sense Sensers" to create a project about the five senses. You will work in a group of pairs and each pair will choose one of the senses to focus on and create a PowerPoint that includes...

  • Title: The name of your sense
  • Description: A few sentences describing the sense and the body part associated with it
  • Picture: Either from the internet or drawn
  • Examples: Two everyday activities you can do with that sense
  • Fun Fact: One interesting fact about your sense

Once completed you and your partner will present it to the class

Process
  1. Choose your sense: Each pair will choose a sense an each sense will be used twice.
  2. Research: Use the following link to learn about the sense you chose. https://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/humanbody/senses.html
  3. Create your PowerPoint: Include the title, description, picture, example, and fun fact.
  4. Prepare your presentation: Practice presenting the project to another group
  5. Present: Present your PowerPoint to the class. Each pair must be asked one question about what they learned at the end
