Introduction

In this WebQuest, students will learn about sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch through videos, classroom activities, and group work. Students will discover how their senses help them understand the world around them.

Guiding Questions

  • What are the five senses?
  • What body parts help us use our senses?
  • How do our senses help us every day?

Learning Objectives

Students will:

  • Identify the five senses and the body parts connected to each sense. (Remembering)
  • Describe how the five senses are used in everyday life. (Understanding)
  • Demonstrate the five senses during classroom activities. (Applying)
  • Create a short group video about the five senses. (Creating)

 

Task

Students will work in small groups of 5 to create a short classroom video about the five senses. Each group will explain the senses by acting out examples, showing drawings, or using classroom objects. The teacher will help students record the video using Flip or another classroom video tool. Groups will share their videos with the class after they are completed.

Step 1

Watch short educational videos about the five senses.

Step 2

Discuss the five senses as a class:

  • Sight — eyes
  • Hearing — ears
  • Smell — nose
  • Taste — tongue
  • Touch — hands and skin

Step 3

Students will rotate through classroom stations to explore the five senses:

  1. Listening station with different sounds
  2. Smelling station with safe scents
  3. Touch station with different textures
  4. Taste station with different foods
  5. Observation station using pictures and objects

Step 4

Students will be assigned groups and a sense to plan their classroom video.

Group Roles

  • Student 1 — explains sight
  • Student 2 — explains hearing
  • Student 3 — explains smell
  • Student 4 — explains taste
  • Student 5 — explains touch

Each student will discuss how their assigned sense is used in everyday life and provide examples during the group video.

Step 5

Groups will record a short video explaining the five senses and showing examples from their activities

Step 6

Students will watch each group’s video and discuss what they learned at the end with the teacher.

Conclusion

Students  learned how our five senses help us explore and understand the world around us. By working together, completing activities, and creating group videos, students were able to practice using sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch in fun and creative ways. Understanding our senses helps us learn more about ourselves and the environment every day.
