First Nations and Europeans in New France

Introduction

You will have the opportunity to research and think critically about some advantages and disadvantages of European colonization from the perspective of different groups. 

You will conduct research and create a newspaper to publish your findings. You will investigate the perspective of both the First Nations and the Europeans.

In what ways did First Nations people and Europeans benefit eachother in New France?

Were were some of the short term and long term effects of the relationship between the First Nations people and the European explorers/settlers?

Task

In groups of 2, you will investigate positive and negative consequences of interactions between one of the First Nations and one of the settler communities in New France.You will create a letter from the perspectives of one of the First Nations or one of the European community members in New France.

On Google Classroom, list the the positive and negative consequences of interactions between between the First Nations and Europeans. Be sure to add in specific details and to paraphrase (ie. put into your own words).

You may create a Google Doc file where the Webquest site is given. You do not need to make a file under both partner names, but be sure to type both of your names in the file.

With your partner, you will each write a letter from the perspective of either a First Nations person or European settler. You will describe what you see around you, how you feel as this person and any difficulties that the other group has put you through. You will peer edit each others work and create a good copy of the letter. Make your letter look authentically historical. ***See examples from class***
