Task
Students will be in a first-grade classroom setting and will be tasked various language arts and reading comprehension activities to help enhance their language arts and reading skills.
I (the teacher) will sit sst the front of the class and take small groups of students (about 5 at a time), to sit and practice turns reading and comprehending from a learner-level book appropriate to their reading levels. I will have each student take turns reading using a pencils eraser side to follow-along with the words as they are reading. I will encourage them to sound out words and give them the skills to encourage and enhance their reading skills in the class.
While the small group of students are working with me I will have the rest of the students in the class work on a worksheet that will also be projected on the smart board (completed by me) in which will provide the class with a visual example of what the instructions for the worksheet look like when completed.
Process
1. Students will silently sit at their desks and be handed a worksheet to complete both sat their desks as well as online on the touch board) only if and when they have all completed the lesson. This will encourage the students to get their personal work done on paper and pencil while also insinuating an incentive for them to finish so that they can practice their writing skills along with listening (to instruction) skills.
2. In groups of 5 or less, students will come sit with me(teacher) and take turns going around the round table reading aloud from their short "chapter-books" that are appropriately aligned to their grade levels standards and level. I will have students point using the eraser side of a pencil to the words they are reading and encourage them as they sound out unfamiliar words and gain more confidence in their reading capabilities.
3. The rest of the class will be working on an activity individually and will be shown the visual of the same activity on the smart board to help any confused with what the expectations are for the activity.
Students roles will change depending on which step in the process they are at. For example, students that are reading with the teacher at the round table will be responsible for encouraging and being support to the student in their small group that is reading. The student sitting at their desks will be responsible to follow directions, stay quiet and be respectful to the student reading along at the round table in the front.
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated /graded based upon their Reading that is done at the round table with their instructor /teacher.
