Introduction
On the 13th of May, 11 ships set sail from Portsmouth, England, to New South Wales, Australia.
As there was no more room in the jails in England, the convicts were sent to Australia, as the British Government thought it was a 'Terra Nullius'.
This fleet of convict ships became known as the ‘First Fleet’. The First Fleet carried over 1300 people!
The fleet arrived at Botany Bay on January 20, 1788.
